Unable to use Shared Actions across the same project

I have created a shared action to be used across a number of related slides within the same project. My assumption being they are similar to a function with parameters so can be used anywhere within a project.

The shared action essentially allows me to control button states and related text, in effect a show/hide type scenario for multiple buttons. This works fine on the  slide as you would expect. However, when I try to reuse on  other slides the new parameters overwrite those of the earlier slide???

Am I missing something here?
