Question

Upgraded from 4 to 5 and regretting it

I've searched, but haven't found any with my exact issue. Basically, I upgraded from Captivate v4 to v5 and now Captivate is running extraordinarily slow. I click on a text box to edit and have to wait a full 30 seconds before I can do anything else. It doesn't matter if I'm editing the text or moving the box itself. It's the same when I click on any object or click from one slide to another. The application itself can take several minutes just to open. I didn't have any of these issues with v4.

There is nothing "fancy" in my current projects (no widgets, little if any animated text, and very few animations - boring, I know). The only other applications I run simultaneously are Outlook and Word. I'm running it on an HP laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz CPU, 1.99GB of RAM, with Windows XP Professional. I have a 75GB hard drive, with 42GB free space. The Adobe Captivate application is housed on my C drive, but projects are saved and published to a separate server.

Any ideas? My comany IT staff has been less than helpful and I'm desperate to speed up the development time on these projects. It's extremely frustrating to have to wait every single time I click on something.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!

My IT folks were able to bump up the RAM in my laptop, which has helped considerably. However, now I've found that something in 5 won't communicate completion/scores to our LMS (Posted question here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/843495?tstart=0). Apparently many people are having the same issue with SCORM and AICC with 5.

So needless to say, I've pretty much found 5 to be a nice paperweight and not much more. I'm going back to 4 until Adobe gets all these many many bugs worked out.

Agree with Lilybiri. Have similar laptop to yours and the difference between that and my

64 bit OS desktop is incredible.

    Hello,

Please work on the CP-files on your own HDD, not on the server. You can copy them to the server at any moment but it is not a good idea to work on a server copy. You do not tell if you have a dedicated graphics card? I heard similar complaints from users and mostly they didn't have a graphics card at all, but RAM memory was used for the graphics too. This is not a very correct explanation, sorry, just want to pass the message. Captivate is very graphics intensive. I do use a laptop too, but with a NVidia with 1GB on it and 12GB RAM. Of course with Win XP such a configuration is not possible, and I do suspect graphics are managed by the same 2GB RAM?

Thanks, Lilybiri. I'll move my files to the C drive and see if that helps.

I'm locked out of Device Manager (thanks again, IT), but it looks like it's just integrated Intel graphics.

That is what I suspected, sorry for you. I have used CP5 on a desktop with about your specifications but it had a NVidia too with 512MB, even then it is a lot slower than my Win7 laptop I described
