Hi - wondering if you know why this error message appears when trying to load a cptx file made in Captivate 7 into Captivate 8.

Thanks

Barry

    Barry,

When I get that message on any of my projects, I cringe, because it usually means something got corrupted somewhere.

Do you still have Captivate 7? What happens when you try and open the file there?  If you get the same message, you might have a corrupted file on your hands. I've never experienced another reason for getting that message.

As an aside, have you set Captivate so that it automatically creates a backup of your file every time you save your work? That has saved me on more than one occasion. I encourage all new developers to check this one little tiny checkbox. This way, if your source file ever becomes corrupt, you can go to the back-up, open it and pickup from the point where you last saved your work.

Go to Edit>Preferences and check the box for "Generate Project Backup". It will save the backup in the same place it saves your original Captivate file. It is not checked by default so you have to go in and check it yourself.

I realize this may not help you with your current situation, but it may save you some future strife with other projects.
