Question

USB microphone

I have a USB headset / microphone that works great for phone calls.  I'm unable to record in Captivate 7, what am I doing wrong?  I was able to record using Captivate 5.5, my old computer and headset / microphone (which was NOT USB), so I'm familiar with the process in Captivate.

Captivate 2017 wasn't able to see my USB microphone through the Edit > Preferences > Record Settings, but I was able to see it and select if using Audio > Settings.  After doing that, the USB mic appeared in Edit > Preferences > Record Settings.

I've also had to restart Captivate once in a while when it forgets about this mic.

Apparently, USB mics have been problematic in Captivate since version 1.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting because not my experience. Been using usb mics have worked well for me. Blue Yeti, Blue Nessie, HD Pro 920 Webcam, Logitech Headset etc. - for development and in my classroom have used these since Version 6 for student recordings.

I have also found that Captivate works well with USB microphones.  However, in all the years I have used Captivate I did have one particular laptop that (for no apparent reason I could find) would occasionally 'forget' my USB microphone of choice.  But this seemed to be something about my laptop or the specific way Windows was set up on it.  I couldn't really blame Captivate for the issue.  My current Windows 10 laptop works perfectly with USB microphones.

    Hi there

If you click Audio > Record to > Slide you should see the dialog below. On that dialog, are you able to click the items shown? If so, are you able to change things there?

    Cheers... Rick

Yes, I see that screen and the Jabra is what shows up.

I don't know if you are using Windows or Mac, but you may need to tell your system which input device you want to use.
