If I create a 1 minute sample for a potential client using the captivate trial will I need to purchase the subscription in order to download a SCORM compliant zip file to load into an LMS to demo what I created?

I think you mean will you need to have a valid licensed version to UPLOAD a SCORM created with Captivate to your LMS.  The answer is that you can still use a trial version to create SCORMs for upload but these will only work for 30 days and then expire (due to the trial version being used).  Other than this 30 day expiry of content, the trial version of Captivate is fully functional.
