Using Hints after X number of attempts on KC slide

Hi group.

If I have a fill in the blank KC slide with unlimited attempts, is there a way to provide a hint after a certain number of attempts? Say the user guesses the answer three times and is still incorrect, I'd like to have a hint display without the user "failing" the slide.

If you click 'Quiz' and go to 'Failure Messages' there is a dropdown menu with numbers going up to 3.  This means that you can select up to 3 distinct failure messages.  The first two could be 'try again' and the third could be your hint.

If you wanted to have more than 3 attempts then you would have to make a custom slide. Capture

I have explained the differences between KC slides and normal quiz slides in this article:

You can for sure use the approach explained by Jeremy. The only problem is that at the 4th attempt, if it is not successful, no caption will be displayed anymore.
