Using UPerform Simulations as Web Objects in Captivate 9

Hi there

I am creating training content in Captivate 9 which is to include several simulations that have been recorded using UPerform. I have published the simulations as standalone files, launched by an index.htm. I link them into course using the web object option, and they display the start screen, but when I publish the files, they are not playing the simulation.

As the simulation files are stored locally on my laptop, is there something I am missing to make the simulations play within the Captivate course?

I have seen a demo on YouTube where you can insert the same simulations using Articulate, and the process seems the same. Any ideas?

From memory...uPerform simulations come out as SWF files do they not?  Or are yours published as MP4 videos?

If you are testing the output locally from your PC, it's possible you are not seeing the simulations play properly because they are being blocked by Flash Global Security.  That's a very common issue when you are using linked SWF or video files played locally.

If you don't know how to set up your publish folder location as a trusted location in Flash Global Security settings, then upload your content to a web server or LMS and test it from there.  Flash Global Security doesn't intervene then.

On another note, if these simulations ARE indeed SWF, you might want to rethink using uPerform as your simulation tool because SWF has no long-term future in e-learning and your organisation may shortly be about to disable Flash SWF content.

Hi Rod

Thank you for your reply.

I am working for a client, so we are using the resources that are deployed within their organisation.

The individual simulations play fine by themselves once published on my laptop, they just won't pick up when inserted into the course. The start screen of the simulation displays in the web object when it is set up on the slide, but doesn't display when the content is published to either swf or HTML. I have also tried loading it to SCORM cloud.

I have updated the global settings on Adobe Flash player, but it doesn't seem to be working that way either.

What is the filetype of these simulations?
