Question

Variable Section names and Hyperlinks

Seems like this should be possible but I can't work it out.

What I want is to have a 'contents' page that is just a list of variables. When creating a new course I can go in and assign the variable values with the section names for the course. This will pull to my 'contents' page and to the Headings for each of the section intro slides. I want the links on my 'contents' page to look for a slide label called "Section1", "Section2", "Section3", etc... and automatically link to those slides (to save me the job of going through and manually linking the links to the correct slide).

TL:DR - can you add an action to a button to look for a slide title, and if it finds it, link to it?

I suspect this could be possible with JS, not with advanced actions. If you could concatenate a variable with literals to create a command, it could be done. Your question is not yet totally clear to me, must be due to me not being a native English speaker. You are setting up a custom TOC, right? Why is the default TOC not an option?

To go to a slide, I explained in this article the use of hyperlinks:

    Thanks for your response.

I never really worded my question that well haha not your fault!

So the reason im not using the in built TOC is because i want a fixed structure everytime that i can create a template for (so there will always be a section introduction page, then some content, then a section summary page). So in my custom contents it would look like this -

    Section 1

    Section 2

    Section 3

And each of them are smartshapes with variable (section1_name) so that they pull in the correct name of the section and this pulls to the Section Introduction page.

But i want Section 1 to look for a slide titled "section1" and link to it...probably asking a bit much from advanced actions?

This type of structure can be generated within Captivate, just 'Group' your slides within the Cp file, and each group will generate a folder once you refresh the ToC. Just name the groups: Section 1, Section 2, Section 3.

I've built 'master' .cptx files, (I don't call them templates), that have section header slides as well as content slide and use them to get a consistent look and feel.
