Variables and Actions in Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro

Hello Gurus,

I have been searching different forums around the net for three days, so I am really frustrated since I cant find anything related to this, and I am even thinking if this is really possible.

I'll try to explain what I wanted to make. I am using Captivate 4 and publishing my content through Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server. I want to use this "Variables and Actions" Feature of my current version of Captivate. Now, I want that when my user open a training which she is enrolled with, I want her name to appear on the content, like "Hello Irish" something like that, without requiring her to log on her name. How could I make use this variables and actions in captivate 4 to get automatically the "first-name" variable of my user in Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro of my user?

Is this possible guys?

Thanks.

Troy

You can't do it out of the box, but I think that you could use a custom Flash File to retrieve the name from Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro and then populate the v_Name variable in Captivate.

The reason why I say "think" is that I don't know Connect Pro, but if the user name is available there you should be able to get it like described above.

Hi,

I am looking at Connect Pro right now, and as I can see it on its default page it displays the name and lastname of the logged user, moreover, there is a part where you could either invite existing user, or create existing user, as mentioned in this link: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AcrobatConnectPro/7.5/Using/WS5C856274-D671-4665-9CD0-29868C8960F2.html so I am thinking If maybe there could be a way where I can retrieve the "first-name"of the user through Variables and Actions of Captivate. Since I am trying to avoid prompting the user to type in their first names, I wish to do automatically, that is if it possible.

Thanks.

Yes but I doubt that you can get this from Captivate variables / advanced actions out of the box. Basically these things can only be used within a Captivate file. If you need to get some info into (or out from) Captivate you need to use another component/approach to achieve this.

Therefore you need something - could be a custom Flash file or a custom JavaScript - that will take the name from Connect Pro and "inject" this into Captivate.
