Question

video / CP Slide synchronization problems

Hi - I have inserted a short video into captivate and it takes up half the screen. On the other half of the slide various screen shots and/or text content pops up as the speaker on the video talks about it. When I publish it as a swf it works perfectly for me with my fast Internet connection. However, I'm told that where the Internet connection speed is poor the slide gets out of synch. The video pauses since it is progressively downloading but the content on the slide does not.

I've tried different settings including ticking "synchronize with project" on the inserted video. I don't think streaming the video is a possibility. Can anyway give me any tips to avoid this? Is it possible to have a longer loading time at the beginning to avoid the video catching up with the download? I'm guessing that outputting as an .exe would solve this problem but I'm hoping to avoid that.

Thanks for your help!
Aimee

    swartz4209,

You can add a "loading" slide in front of this slide and set the duration for an estimate based on the size of your video and a low bandwidth connection; basically calculate about how long it takes to download. I believe all of the default pre-loaders are set to play at 60%; meaning after 60% of .swf is cached it will start playing. I'm not sure how the .flv are treated.

As a matter of fact maybe you can put a button on the screen with the .flv you want to play. Have it control the start of the .flv video. Set the activation at a later point in the timeline to allow the .flv to be cached, as well as delaying the execution of your slide objects until the .flv is loaded.
