Video demo publications to MP4 are blank

Hello,

After upgrading my Windows Captivate 2019 from 11.5 to 11.8, all my video demos publications as videos are showing as blank (with no sound either).

Any thoughts?

The 11.8 update was intended for users that had migrated to Windows 11.  Is that the reason why you chose to install the update?

If not, I would suggest you roll back to 11.5.

Hello, no, our company told us to upgrade if we wanted to and we got this 11.8. If that's the case, then, we would need to go back to 11.5.

However, we produce quite a few videos with this version and we cannot open them in 11.5  Is there any way to change the format of the 11.8 cptx files to 11.5 so we can open them in the previous version?

That is correct.  If you edit a project file with 11.8 then you will no longer be able to edit that file with an earlier 11.5 version of Captivate.  There is no "save as 11.5" option.  This is a well-known issue with Captivate.

Normally it only kicks in when you update to a new major version of Captivate.  But since Captivate 2019 has been around so long even some minor version updates have triggered this issue where earlier minor versions cannot open later minor version files.

You would hopefully still have some versions of the CPTX files that predate the upgrade.  But I can understand that you were not expecting this issue and therefore might not have taken precautions against running into an issue like this.

Before giving up hope, do some testing to see whether the issue can be resolved more simply by perhaps exporting and re-inserting the video demos again.
