Question
Video Doesn't Stop on Page Change (Captivate 3.0)
I'm trying to build an eLearning deliverable that includes
static pages (i.e. power point) and also some pages with video
clips. The video clip should have its own playback controls, be
able to be played/stopped/replayed etc etc. I'm using a skin (one
of the included skin.swf's inside captivate) as an overall
navigational control for the project. Video clips are mpegs that
I've converted to FLV. I'm using Captivate 3.0 and Adobe Creative
Suite 3
When I publish the project I run into a problem... if a user clicks on a page that has a video clip, it plays automatically, but then if the user clicks on the next/back button on the captivate skin, the presentation changes pages but it does not stop the playback of the video, in fact the video skin stays on top of the page as the page changes. It then stays there (blacked out) for the duration of the whole presentation (unless you click backwards to an earlier slide) Also a problem..if you don't click around, but let the video play all the way to its finish, then go forward, then come back to the page that had the video to play it a second time, the video sometimes will not play.
I would assume that the playback skin for the video component should interact with the controls on the overall skin? i.e. if you click next on a navigational control in the overall skin it should stop the video playback and then switch pages.
I've had similar problems/behavior when trying to include an animation built in flash as an SWF file in captivate... when moving from page to page the animation may continue to play (or in some cases you can still hear its audio playing even if you can't see the animation). (also at issue, I'm not sure when its best to loop an animation or place a stop at the end of an animation, and how selecting loop as an import option effects things either way?)
I've tried various publication and video export/import options but nothing seems to fix things. Can anyone offer any help with this problem?
Also, can someone explain how the timeline of an embeded object (like an SWF or FLV) relates to the timeline of the captivate movie, and how the skin controls can interact with those embeded SWF or FLV objects?
For my project its important that the user be able to have overall navigational controls as some learners may need/want to skip forward or backward over topics, some may not view video clips but others may view them multiple times.
Any feedback or help is appreciated
Thanks
Ben
