Question

Video files set as not visible do not play on "show", why?

I'm having trouble getting my video files to play based on user interaction.  I have 5 click boxes set up and 5 videos.  All the videos are set to hidden (visibility unchecked).  When a user clicks on one of the click boxes, I'm setting the corresponding video to show (while keeping the rest hidden).  The video shows up and I can see the first frame, but it does not play.  The behavior is inconsistant though.  For example, if I click on another click box, then return and click on the box I clicked previously, the video plays correctly.

Question: Is this the right approach to making videos play based on user interaction?  If so, how can I fix this behavior?

More info:

Video is FLV set as Progressive Download

Display is for duration of video Synchronize to project is unchecked

Back up plan?  If I set the combination of display for rest of slide and synchronize with video, it works (sort of).  But the video is sometimes cut off before it finishes.  Plus, that combination of settings doesn't make sense to me.  (this is a secondary issue)

I'm scratching my head here because I expected Captivate to have some sort of video "play" option.  Instead there is only "show" which is ambiguous and not behaving like I'd expect.

Thanks!

Why don't you just have your videos on separate slides and use your buttons to jump to those slides to play the videos, then set the OnExit action of each slide to jump back to your button slide?

I'm doing some advanced actions and enabling/disabling items on the slide.  Each click box is "sticky" because once it's been clicked, I'm giving the user permanent feedback that it was clicked (correct/incorrect).  Repeating that on each slide, while possible, would require a good bit more work so I'd like to avoid that if I can.  The slide is very dynamic.

Hello,

Even with the scenario described by Rod this will be possible: the user returns to the 'menu' slide and on re-entering that slide you can have the conditional advanced action that shows the checkmark; feedback and eventually disables the click box.
