Question

Video Playback crashes (uses all available memory)

Problem: I create an SWF file from "Full Motion Recording of a Software Simulation".  About 1 minute into playing the resulting SWF video, the screen paints black.  I continue to hear the audio.

I turned on the Device Manager and watched as all Physical Memory was consumed.  The error begins when 1.85GB of my available 2.0GB of RAM is consumed.

I am running Adobe Captivate 4 and have applied all available updates (as of 12 October 2009)

My OS is Microsoft Vista 32-bit (Service Pack 1)

I have 2GB of Ram and a 2.00GHz processor

    Hi there

Hmmm, I could have sworn that the Captivate team assured me there were changes made in the way version 4 operates so you don't see this. Incidentally, we used to see this as a red screen and I called it the Red Screen Of Death (RSOD).

Sorry, but all I can suggest to you is that you need to record in a different way. Captivate never has been the tool to use if you are wanting full motion capture. Yes, I'm aware that it does offer it and allow you to record that way, but best practice is to avoid using it. You are directly seeing one reason why.

Wish I had something more to offer here. Note that I love me some Captivate. But If you really want full motion to be your style of capture, Captivate really isn't the tool you should be using. At least it hasn't made it to that point yet.

    Cheers... Rick

    Thanks Rick.

I have been pulling my hair out for the past week and a half on this.  I will continue to watch for other replies (maybe I'll get lucky), but I will begin planning for other options.

    Thanks again,

    Hi there,

This is a long shot but have you tried setting the Video color mode (Preferences > Recording > Full Motion Recording)  to 32 bit? Another option that might work would be to disable the hardware acceleration.

Like I say these are long shots but if you haven't already tried these options it might be worth giving them a whirl.

    Best - Mark
