Video playback problems - one clip won't play, others inconsistent

Hi,

I'm working on a video heavy project in the current patched version of Captivate 7 on a Mac.  Unfortunately I'm having a rather painful time getting the video to work.  Some clips work, but one in particular doesn't (even different encodes of that same video).  Here is the background:

The runtime for the video is about 20-minutes and I've broken it up into  into 1 to 4 minute chunks with the total encoded size of all video coming in around 750 MB.  All video was encoded in Adobe Media Encoder.

I built the project (1 intro slide, 9 video slides, plus a quiz at the end) happily previewing "In Web Browser" with everything working well.

Then I uploaded the project to a Moodle installation I have to test the SCORM side and immediately found that the first video slide would show the loading sign for a bit but never show the video.  Eventually the cursor would move forward to the end of the slide while the loading thing would continue to show over the slide background.  I reloaded and got the same result.  Then I tried jumping to the second video that video and that played fine as did most of the others.  Some video toward the end of the project played sometimes and sometimes not, but I wasn't sure if that was a bandwidth issue on my not-so-fast Hostgator account.  Either way the first video wouldn't play.

So I tried it without any reporting - same issue.

I tried just uploading the files to a directory and playing it outside of Moodle - same issue.

I tried switching the order of the first and second video and the second one (now first in order) played fine while the first one (now second in order) still failed to show.  So even when it came later in the project instead of first it had the same failure.

Trying to figure out what was going on I tried making a new project with just the video on a series of blank slides to remove any issues with the quiz, buttons, widgets or anything else I could think of and found that the same video was a problem... so I re-encoded that video and tried again - same issue.

Then i tried a project without that first video segment and found that it would work - at least mostly, but it would have trouble with some of the later videos which I think is because the server is slow and there is too much video trying to still load that I skipped through.  To make sure they were okay and would play, I made a project with just the one's that seemed finicky from the end of the project and they would play.  I made a project with just that first video and it failed to play.

I created a few new version of  that first video - going back to the original project in Premiere and re-encoding to different sizes, bandwidths - same issue.

All videos segments in this project have basically the same intro graphics and music and I really can't figure out what would cause this.  The "problem child" is shorter than several others, so it isn't a file size or video length thing.   I'm running out of ways to try to debug what is going on.

Any thoughts or suggestions?  Any help is welcome!

p.s.  I just tried recreating the preferences and that failed as well.
