Videos no longer work once project is hosted (Captivate 9)

Hi all,

I have built, published an hosted online what I believe to be a pretty simple non-LMS project.

This is pretty much a straight redesign of an older project that needed a new look and feel, sizing, and updated content. But the videos I am using in the Version 2.0 are the exact same files successfully used in version 1.0.

I carefully named and organized the videos (mp4s) and placed them throughout the presentation using Media>Video>Event Video>browse (progressive download video).

Preview mode and published project worked fine, however I did notice that upon publishing, the videos were automatically re-named when thy were collected into the "vr" folder to simple names like "Vi2.mp4".

Once I uploaded the project to our server none of the videos worked any more. You can see what's going on here (hit launch unit, there's a video right on slide 1):

Building Strengths: learning that supports all students

All you get is this delightful pre-loader of fail:

Now, I thought, hey I can just go back to my project file and type in absolute links for those vids becasue they are up on the server ie: http://ufv.ca/strength-demo/unit1/vr/Vi2.mp4 ... right?

I can't use the progressive download video format any more.

I tried using "Adobe media streaming service" as it was the only one that allowed me to specify an http:// link but that was a no go.

"Streaming video" was a no-go too.

So I relinked to the renamed video in the published folder, and alas, once I re-upload the project it still does not work. Hmmm, ideas?

Thank you!

Have you checked whether or not your server is actually set up to allow video files of this type?  Sometimes the issue is that your server administrator needs to specifically allow the file mimetype.  There may have been some changes to the server environment that have now disabled what was previously working for you.

First fou need to test whether MP4 videos can be directly accessed on the server to prove whether or not the issue is with the server settings.  If MP4 videos can normally be served but they are just not working for you, try uploading the same SCORM zip output to SCORM cloud LMS to see if they work from there.  If they do, go back to your LMS vendor and tell them the issue seems to be with the LMS. If SCORM cloud has no issue with the content, why does their LMS?

Yep, I was nice to IT and they "fixed it". I'll have more details soon but sounds like what you said: issue with server settings!

Ah, Rod, my personal Captivate saviour!

It's interesting becasue I still have the old version up on the same server here: http://ufv.ca/strength-demo/buildingstrengths/unit1/index.html and on slide 1.2 (in TOC) the same video I used does work, also imported into the library etc.

I just signed up for a trial SCORMcloud account. Unfortunately, for the life of me I don't seem to be able to make a SCORM zip output.

**update** never mind, figured out how to make SCORM zip and you're right. WORKS in SCORMcloud.

I'll talk to our web person in the morning. I heard they had "trouble with the videos" last time so maybe same issue.

These are the trials of self hosting I guess!
