Question

Videos won't upload into Cp 12

My Cp12 won't even upload a 5-second video which I made in 16:9 format to test things out. It is 7.2 MB MPEG-4.

When I click Add Video--> System, my videos are "greyed out" and unavailable for upload.

Any idea what the problem could be?

I suspect that you mean version 12, sometimes indicated as CP2023?

Which template slide did you use? Slide video or the other one?

Can you re-encode the video with AME? I wonder if it still ships with CP2023? Hope that someone can confirm this is the case. I have Adobe Media Encoder installed, but have also CP2019 on my systems.  Not every MP4 uses the correct codec which is accepted by Captivate (at least that was so in all versions so far).

My apologies if I might be calling the software by the wrong name, I mean "The All New Captivate", as opposed to "Captivate Classic". Is it correct to call this Cp12? Or should I call it Cp 2023?

The only way I am aware of to add a video in this "All New Captivate" is New Slide --> Add Media block. From there you can either select a block with 1 video, or with 2 videos (I am not sure how having 2 videos on one screen is useful, but peraps there are use-cases for this--but not in my case).

So I select the video block for a single video, and there is is, tiny and small, wiht a sample video from the Asset Library. Attempting to replace it with a video from my own computer is not possible - that's when I get greyed-out options that I cannot select. I see my files listed, but they are not available to click on and import.

This must be a bug, right?

Under Media Block you have Slide video (which is the one you call 1 video) and Video. So you used Slide video.  I mostly use that to insert a URL from YouTube and that works great. I didn't succeed at filling the screen with the video however. Video Design 2 is closest to filling, but only for desktop. Slide video in previous versions was synchronized with Captivate's Timeline and that is still the case. You can add bookmarks as well.

I had no problem to replace the default video by one of my videos. It may be that your MP4s don't use the correct codec. Solution would be to re-encode using Adobe Media Encoder. In previous versions that AME was included in the Captivate package, but I am not sure this is still the case (I have it because I have CP2019 installed). Can you check?
