What good are Master Slides if...

I can not edit them on the main timeline? I create a captivate template and use master slides with place holders. Then create a new project from the template and I can not edit the master slide with place holders. Right now all I can see using a master slide for is my background objects that are the same on every slide.

I was hoping that I was goign to be able to use master slides with my subject matter expert. That way all he had to do was pick a Master for a slide then type the info in the place holder. But that does not work. So I am back to using regular slides with place holders.

The whole concept of being able to add place holders to a masterslide seems strange to me if you can not edit them on the main timeline.

Did you ever get a satisifactory answer?  I was so excited about Slide Masters in templates, but now I'm just frustrated.  I can insert a placeholder object, such as a Text Caption placeholder, but my subject-matter experts cannot double-click on it in the Filmstrip view to activate.  What gives?  Like you, it just seems useful for adding "design" work, like backgrounds, colours.

Anything you find would be very helpful.

No I did not get a response. I think Captivate 5 was release too soon and a major update will eventually need to be released. I have been going back and forth with Adobe so much I feel like I work for them now as a bug tester.

If it`s of any help, here is the answer I received from Kevin Siegel`s IconLogic blog:

When it comes to master slides Janet, you'll find that they act very much like the old PageMaker (am I dating myself?). Master slides are really only useful for background objects such as logos and footers. Once objects are added to a master slide, and the master slide attached to a project slide, you cannot do anything to the master slide objects from the project slide (you have to go back to the master slide). Your attempt to add placeholders to a master slide, then use those master slides on project slides within a template is a worthy one. However, as you have seen, once you create a new project using the template, the placholders on the master slides cannot be accessed via the project slides and are rendered useless. I would expect the ability to access master slide objects on project slides to be something you might see in a future version of Captivate... but sadly, not version 5.
