What is the best approach for sourcing images and diagrams in my project?

Hi guys

I'm a very new user of Captivate and I've started on my first project. What I've noticed is that there isn't a lot of "native" images/shapes/flowcharts and diagrams. For example I want to do a process flowchart in my project. I wanted to check that I'm accessing the appropriate sources and using them the right way. So what I'm doing at the moment is:

1) First seeing if I find such a flowchart "native" to the basic menus by looking in the "objects" and "shapes" menu

2) Looking through the widgets

3) Creating the desired process flow in powerpoint and then cutting and pasting that image into the project.

So my three questions are:

1) Is what I doing right?

2) Am I missing any other source(s) for images/shapes/flowcharts/diagrams?

3) If I insert stuff from powerpoint will that stuff up my repsonsive project ie will those images be "Responsive" or be static and hence cause me trouble in say a mobile version of the project?

Thanks

Hamada

Unlike PowerPoint, Captivate doesn't have a native flowchart widget as yet.  Your approach of creating the flowchart in PPT, saving it as an image and then importing that image into Captivate sounds fine to me.

You cannot use a PPT slide in a responsive project.  Any image that you place in a responsive project will remain static. You can resize it for each of your viewports but you'll get some deterioration that way.  It's usually better to have three specially formatted images.

    Thanks Rod

So that still sounds like a pain. There are two pans here by the sounds of it:

    1) Am I interpreting you correctly that if I want this flowchart image to display correctly in tablet, mobile and laptop I essentially have to create it 3 different times with three different sizes, one per size?

    2) Once I paste it in as an image, I can't manipulate timings, formatting etc for each element of the flowchart separately.

Is there no other way around this? Also I notice I can't even seem to find a line shape in Captivate.......

Image variety and flexibility looks at this point to be a massive achilles heel for this product unless I'm missing something

Hmmm, no line shape? Can you mention the exact version number, please? I have a line shape even in responsive projects, you probably have to update your version.

Captivate is not a design application but an eLearning authoring tool.

If you want different objects, you'll have to use the shapes. You can manipulate each shape and even turn them into freeform shapes which will offer you the ability to edit points and create bezier curves.
