What is the correct way to split a large project into smaller sections (2017)

I am using Captivate 2017 and I am using Scorm Cloud to test my project.

The current project (just Section A) has 91 pages

It has:

  • Main Menu
  • Section A Menu
  • Section A Pre Test
  • Section A Course
  • Section A Post Test
  • Section A Appendices
  • Section B Menu etc...

Each section links to the Main Menu and also it's own Menu (Section A Menu / Section B Menu) as well as the section menu linking to multiple sections within the section course.

I have uploaded a complete version to Scorm but in testing the file is too big for the client to be happy with the overall speed.

The project needs to report back the current status and also the result of the Post Test.

So, I thought I would split the project into smaller, easier chunks based on the sections listed above. I searched the forums and there suddenly seems to be a difference of opinion on what's the correct / best method, and given my inexperience in Captivate, I have not been able to get a definitive answer on any forum or support page. There are loads, but not one that has given me the answer.

I would be grateful for any help and / or ideas on if this is even possible. I would prefer to use html5 but at this moment either html5 or swf output with a result would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Gavin

A SCORM package is not allowed to directly link to another SCORM. In a multi-SCORM course, the LMS is supposed to use the imsmanifest.xml in the overall package to create a TOC with links to launch each SCO module.

So your current structure with a Menu at the start that allows launching of the other sections will need to change because the LMS TOC basically becomes the menu.

Depending on the LMS you are using, you may be able to use SCORM rules for sequencing of the modules so that completion of the Pretest module would mean the learner did not need to complete the content for that section.  But this is something you will need to take up with your LMS Administrator.
