What to do if Captivate 3 does not work with Windows 7

We use Captivate 9 for new eLearning courses; however, I still have Captivate 3, 5, 7 and 8 on my PC because some of our eLearning courses were built in those earlier versions of Captivate, and I may need to view them or update them in the earlier version, due to time constraints.

The problem is that our new PCs have Windows 7, and Captivate 3 gives error messages related to Flash Player, including these:

So what is the best way to update a course developed in Captivate 3?

Should I open it in Captivate 5 and save it in 5, and then open the 5 version in Captivate 9?

Thank you!

Jan

Yes I would suggest you first upgrade the Cp3 courses to Cp5. (You might even be able to jump straight to Cp6, but Cp7 or later will not recognise Cp3/4 files.)  Then you'll need to upgrade again to near current versions.

Early versions of Captivate (including 3 and 4) were not programmed to work with Flash Players beyond a certain version, which was definitely short-sighted on someone's part.  So the only way to get those older versions of Captivate to work on later Windows OSs was to install much earlier versions of Flash Player than were currently available.  But these versions are now so far behind the curve it's becoming mandatory to upgrade any project files to current versions if you ever intend to edit or republish those courses.  If you delay too long you will simply end up having to trash the courses and rebuild from scratch.
