Question

where are triggers for state changes?!

If I could throw this product through a window, I would.  Unfortunately, I am stuck with it for work.  Articulate is so much easier to navigate.  This should be a simple process, but I cannot figure out how to set triggers for state changes.

I created a simple text box, then I created a state where the text color changed from black to blue.....

I have not been able to find any options to create a trigger that will cause the state change.  I have looked at it both in Stat View and in normal view.  What am I missing?!!?!?!

Are you not able to do state changes on text?

I had the same issue with the title slide, so I created the above mentioned blank slide thinking maybe title slides are limited.

Thanks

Captivate interactivity is event-based (as is Articulate Storyline).

So you need to be looking at what screen event you need to use as the trigger.  Do you want the state change to happen ON Slide Enter, or when the user clicks something (e.g. a button)?

Thanks for the response.

What if I want a rollover for text and not an image?  So if someone hovers over a specific word or text box and I want that text to be emphasized by going bold and red when it is hovered over.

On the same note, I figured out how to do an image rollover, but there does not appear to be a way to have the rollover area itself change states.

or example, say I have a blue box and when it is hovered over, an image next to it appears.  So far, I can do this by making the rollover area a blue box and setting the corresponding image next to it.  But what if I want the rollover area to be lighter in color at the same time.  There doesn't appear to be a way to do this.

in all fairness, I am a new user and I am sure there are workarounds to do this, but the software is not very intuitive.

Additionally -

I put an arrow smart shape pointing -->  I want it to change directions when a user clicks enter.  How is that done?

Captivate uses events to trigger simple, advanced or shared actions. It is not called triggers as in SL. Each authoring tool has its own terminology and design.

There are events linked with Slides and with interactive objects (the rollover slidelet is a hybrid interactive object). Complete overview: Events and (advanced) Actions - Captivate blog

If you explained when the state has to change more in detail? Here is another blog post where I illustrated the use of events to change states:

Shared actions have the big advantage to be in the Library, which is a place where you can find all used assets. Such a Library can be opened in another project. Captivate has a lot more functionality for reusing assets AFAIK.

Appreciate the answer.  I was unable to respond quickly as I needed to review the two links that you shared.  They both seem like they will be helpful eventually, but my initial questions still hold true.

I need to understand the basic navigation and functionality.  Once that is done, I am certain that I can create interactivity similar to one of your blog examples.  The problem is that I have not figured the basics out yet.

Please review the same examples I replied to with Rod and if you can provide an explanation I would appreciate it.  I am looking for a click by click for most simple example that you can provide to show me how to create an event.  I can then use that as a building block for moving forward.

Thanks!
