Why background music volume varies in different slides? The music is low on some slides but suddenly become high on some other slides. How to fix it to make them all the same? Thank you!

Are all of your audio files recorded the same way?  Same source file, I mean?  I ran into issues when I imported some .wav files and some .mp3 files.  Captivate handles those file types differently.  Now I exclusively record in .wav format, import to Captivate, and then select all slides and adjust the volume for the whole project.  That has given me consistency across slides.

Rebecca,

Yes, all of the audio files were recorded in .wav format. Then, I edited and saved all of them as .mp3 files. So I imported all .mp3 files to Captivate. Does Captivate prefer .wav or .mp3 format?

Could you please tell me the steps that how you "select all slides and adjust the volume for the whole project"? I am not sure where to do that. In addition, is there any place that we can edit background music volume for a single slide?

Thank you very much!

I don't know whether Captivate has a "preference."  I'm using .wav files because exporting them in that format is easier with Audacity which is the program I'm using to create the audio files.

I'm using Captivate 6, so here are the steps in CP 6.  Select all of the project slides in the Filmstrip view.  Then from the menu bar, I click Audio-->Edit-->Slides.  The audio editor window opens.  Click to adjust volume and change the setting as desired.

Captivate will create a new set of .wav files in the library with the increased volume, and automatically use those for the project.  You can delete your original sound files from the library to decrease project size.  If desired, you can export the new audio files from the Captivate project library to your computer.  I usually don't bother, but you can do that if you want.

Hope this helps.

Do you have voiceover audio on the slides where the background music volume is lower?  if so, check your settings for background audio as there is an option there to reduce volume by a certain percentage on slides with voiceover.

RodWard,

Yes, I do have voiceover audio on  every slide except slides with videos. I have set the percentage as 9%. But still, the background music volume is low on some slides as it is supposed to be. But then suddenly the volume becomes high on some other slides even on the same slides, which is higher than voiceover audio.

is there any place that we can edit background music volume for a single slide?

Thank you!
