Question

Why does my template get overridden?

Hi,

I'm using a company template when I create projects. Often when I'm previewing or publishing a project, the company template gets overridden. The end result is grey, and missing for example next / previous navigation arrows, which are included in the template. This is what the end result looks like:

template_override

I've tried to pin down the exact conditions when this happens, but it seems to happen erratically - for example, it doesn't make a difference which previewing option I'm using. I usually publish the projects to my computer as HTML5 / SWF, using the Force re-publish setting.

The only cure for this is to close down Captivate, and delete the preferences folder, as advised in this (brilliant!) article.

I'm currently using Adobe Captivate 2017, but this happened previously also with Adobe Captivate 9. My operating system is Windows 10.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there a fix?

Are you by any chance on a corporate system with your user profile on a network drive rather than running from your own hard drive?

Do you have your Captivate Preferences set to have the Default Locations pointing to local C drive folders?

Thank you for your quick reply!

I'm using my computer's hard drive for my user profile. My Captivate preferences are set like this:

Publish at: C:\Users\[my username]\Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects

Project cache: C:\Users\[my username]\Documents\Adobe Captivate Cached Projects

If this issue has happened with your template with previous versions of Captivate and previous OS versions on your computer, then I would have to say that it appears the template itself is the most likely culprit.  It (or the theme it is using) may have become corrupted, and trying to isolate the corruption might be virtually impossible.

Since the current version of the corporate template was NOT developed with Captivate 10, I would suggest you may need to ditch the old template and build a new one from scratch in Cp 2017.
