Question

Why does the skin operate separately from the video?

I am working in the Trial Version of Captivate 2017.  Using drag/drop, I placed an .mp4 file on a slide.  It is the only slide in the filmstrip.  When I preview the video.  The skin progress bar activates and the progress bar engages, but nothing happens on the screen.  Once the progress bar nears completion, the video activates - showing its own progress bar which tracks video completion.

Why are there two progress bars?  And why does the skin progress bar activate but the video does not start?

Thank you.

You did insert a video as 'event video'? That type of video comes with its own control panel (skin) because it is playing independently of Captivate. If you want to have a Captivate controlled video, insert the video as a Multislide Syncroized video. You don't need to spread it over multiple slides, it can be on one slide. The slide timeline will need to increase to the length of the video duration. That is one of the reasons you cannot have two videos on the same slide as is possible for Event videos (another reason why each needs its control panel).

I am bit confused by your sentence 'Drag drop', I suspect you are not talking about a Darg&Drop slide but about the way you inserted the video, by dragging it to a slide. To be able to choose between Event video and Synchroized video, you need to insert the video using the Video button in the Big Button Bar on top. Video will also appear in the Library.
