Question

Why doesn't tab navigate logically to the next input in most of the property settings?

For example, when adding an alpha animation. The "initial alpha" is selected:

After pressing tab, the "Transition" dropdown is being selected:

Is there some kind of logic behind the decision to map the tabbing like this? It makes no sense to me.

I will try to be polite and not (too) cynical, because I know that I will now speak the language of a small minority of CP-users.

Since Captivate got a Mac version (= for mouse addicts) and the 'easier for newbies' UI appeared with CP8,  some logic, consistency  and the typical Adobe brand was lost in the process. Shortcut keys (not only the Tab you are using) are lost or acting weird.  I got back to my routine to switch mouse from left to right every month to avoid RSI because the amount of clicks and mouse movements has increased exponentially since that switch. You are one of the very few who is complaining about it,  which makes me feel less lonely . Since the majority of users like using the mouse....don't think it will change soon. Or perhaps, to switch to a touch workspace (like Illustrator) which I would welcome. It is a relief when I am back in an application like Photoshop with its many shortcut keys and panels that can be minimized, where you have the hand tool and shortcut keys for zooming also work on a keyboard without extra numerical keys (I'm on AZERTY and that is for sure a minority problem).

The typical Adobe scrubber got lost for several numerical fields (not for all). You can still increase the number with arrows of shift-arrows, which can also be used for moving and size changes for objects. Hope they don't take them out, maybe it is just a legacy leftover. Positive since recent version of 9: CP finally got Rulers and Guides, which help a lot for design and creating motion paths and custom shapes.

Lilybiri, you are not alone

My pet hate...

The TAB action from the X value goes to the Width... why not TAB to the Y value?

I know that this is a minor inconvenience, but they all add up to give a bad impression of the product and a poor user experience.

When I see little quality issues like this, I often wonder what other problems are there in the internal bits of Captivate that are not visible to the user.

But we are a minority... My reaction is to log as many bugs and feature requests as possible. It works, sometimes takes years, but we got the Rulers and Guides after 6 versions, where I logged that request for every version released. I gave up for the Adobe Hand tool, and for keyboard issues for non-US keyboards.  User experience has decreased a lot with the last change in UI (CP8), but apparently not for newbies who never dare to let the mouse escape from their hands
