Question

Will Captivate 6 work with Windows 8?

I have been told that Cap 6 will not work properly when our entire enterprise switches over to Windows 8. If true, can you please tell me the technical reasons so that I can tell IT and also any real life reasons so that I can build a case for a Cap 7 upgrade?

Would appreciate ANY info.

Thanks!

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be compatible. Microsoft website shows it compatible: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Name=Adobe%20Captivate&vendor=Adobe&ModelOrVersion=6&Type=Software&tempOsid=Windows+8

However, experts like Rod have said that it won't work: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-troubleshooting/setting-up-your-computer-to-work-with-captivate

Rod is on this forum frequently, so he can probably elaborate better.

The company I work for uses the Creative Cloud for teams and the monthly subscription for Adobe Captivate 7 which has proven quite handy for us and we're quite happy. Consequently if we upgrade to Windows 8, we'll be fine, so maybe upgrading to Captivate 7 might be a good choice now if you do the same.

Thanks so much Evan. I am hoping to upgrade! If you have used both, I would love any feedback on how the company would get their ROI if they pay for an upgrade (time saving features, ease of use, etc.) If not, no prblem, I appreciate your response above.

I have indeed used both. Captivate 7 seemingly came with a number of new features that Captivate 6 didn't have (maybe the features just didn't make it in time for 6 and were released in 7 instead?) I'm still discovering new things I can do in 7. Captivate 6 was quite glitchy for me, so for at least the sake of being able to work without production halting glitches, that is enough for me to say that it's a good ROI. But it also simply comes with more capability that allows you to build within Captivate more exclusively so you don't have to spend so much time and/or money designing/retrieving content outside of Captivate. The enhancements to Smart Shapes are an example of that.
