If someone is using Captivate 7 and they send me a file, will i be able to open it in Captivate 6 (or an earlier version)?

Shekhar is accurate.

My team is currently upgrading from 6 to 7 and we've run into some issues.  The main one that screwed us up was that opening a course built in Captivate 7 with Captivate 6 changed all the "Actions" to "Continue" (so all our Next and Back buttons changed from going to the next or previous slide now just "continued" playing the slide).  Also, and much more time-consuming to fix, was that all Advanced Actions were deleted.

If you can avoid swapping back and forth, do so!  (We can't avoid it until we're all on the same version -- we're only getting 7 on new machines, and it will be several weeks until we're all upgraded to new machines.)

And then around June/July you'll find Captivate 8 is out...

My advice is to get everyone on subscription and then you can all install the new version and upgrade together at the same time.

Uh... yeah - I agree with Rob's advice to upgrade a team at the same time (same for contractors and clients).  Believe it or not, I actually did request to get the whole team transitioned to the subscription at the same time... however, some companies (mine included) take a little longer to roll such requests out.

In our case, Captivate 7 won't run on some of my team members' machines, so we needed to get these team members new computers first - so it was either have some team members unable to develop at all or have an overlap... we went with the overlap, and I shared what happened to us.

Oh - also, we DID make backups before opening in another version - I recommend doing that no matter what environment you're working in.

Hi There,

Welcome to Adobe Community.

I would like to inform you that backward compatibility is not there with captivate so it is not recommended to open the project with earlier versions. They will not open and if sometimes they do, your project might get corrupt.

Thanks!
