Question

Will Captivate 8 stream videos from Vimeo?

I want to stream videos in Captivate  8 from Vimeo Plus and Pro, and have it output to html5.  Is it possible and how do I do it?  Would the streaming link output to an .exe as well if I chose that format?

or Brightcove??

We are currently developing our training courses in Captivate 8 with
Cornerstone as our LMS. We are phasing our flash and working towards HTML5.

In an effort to speed up our courses we have loaded our videos in to
Brightcove.

Unfortunately, when we insert a Brightcove URL into a Captivate 8 slide,
the video will not play inside Captivate. A browser window opens and plays
the video. For SCORM reasons, we need the video to play within the
Captivate page.

Is there a specific URL format needed to access the video to display
within a Captivate page?

Unfortunately, Brightcove has been unable to answer our questions or help
us to resolve this issue.

We would be most grateful for any insight and/or assistance you can
provide.

Hi there

As this is a reply to an existing thread, I'll have to assume that you have read through the earlier stuff and you know about using the Web Object. What you would do is to use the "Embed Code" that is typically offered by sites such as Vimeo or YouTube. I'm not sure if BrightCove offers an embed code.

Cheers... Rick

Even if we did get the Embed Object to work, closed captioning would be out of the question, wouldn't it? Would there be any possible way to put in cue points?

You can insert the interaction for "Web Object" and input your Vimeo code there, it works well sometimes, depending on the size of the video and what your using it for. The alternative is using an FLV streaming service. Depending on your usage they can be incredibly reasonable, flvnetwork.com has a comprehensive list of plans and if your looking to stream to an EXTREME audience then you'll want to look into using Adobe Media Stream - you can find more information on this in the Captivate PDF under video options, or simply click the MEDIA icon, then Video and then the blue hyperlink at the bottom of the page.

I'd also like this feature. Vimeo gives me more control over my copyrighted videos than YouTube does.

Hi there

You can likely make it happen but it will probably involve massaging the HTML output so as to include the player for the video embed code.

Good luck in choosing the ".exe", the development team removed that ability with version 8. So .exe output is no longer possible.

So we can't stream from Vimeo unless we are adept at coding HTML5?  That is a major bummer!  What about streaming from Amazon Cloudfront, or any other CDN besides YouTube?

I am interested in this topic too as I have the same problem. It's a deal breaker if I can't embed videos into Captivate and will have to look for another solution.
