Wishlist for Captivate 4

I'm starting this thread so we can gather all the thing we want in Captivate 4 !

- speling check for closed captions : you can spell check your notes but not the closed captions!

- CCs independant of sound : CCs are embedded in the audio file. If it sounds logic, for some usage it's a real pain : if you rework your sound, you lose

the CCs (i.e. I had a bad voice over, i've written the CCs, then I received the new voice over and when I replaced the sounds, I had to rewrite

everything). Or for not-straight use of CCs, it would be great that CCs are related to the slide, not the sound. Ability to have CCs without sound as

well (for my not-common usages 🙂 )

- animated text - typing : i'd like it to be displayed like the zoom, with the 2 phases : the first phase when it's typing, the second when the text

stays still

- same idea for fade in/out on objects : like zoom : ability to see the fade in/out time and adjust it directly on the time line.

- "apply only changed properties" for a text captions doesn't really work well : it modifies the text as well (obvious if you have different fonts and/or

colors and/or underline, bold, etc.)

- "display for rest of project" : ability to choose the Z-axis of the object; i.e. the place on the stack : on top or bottom.

- and possibility to say "display until slide xx"

- sound management : I import my voices as mp3. during the importation they are converted to wav, and the publishing reconvert them to mp3. Don't we

waste energy here ?

- background images : why use bitmap ?? it justs make the .cp file bigger. We can work in png or jpg! I've got a project with 152 slides, it's 124 MB !

- Import project window : display slide number as well. suggestion : display slide like the "storyboard" view and enable to select many slides with shift

/ control an then choose the options.

- ...

That's your turn now!

(i'll do my best to make the captivate team come here)

I'm the only Captivate user in my office, so I'm always starved for these kinds of discussions!

A few items on my wish list, in no particular order:

    1. Text button choices - so you could choose a blank image button, and put your own text on it. (I would also appreciate a left justify. It's kind of embarassing having to fake it with space space space space.)

    2. Drag and drop.

    3. Custom text captions from within Captivate. (Doesn't have to be really fancy- I'll bring in my own rectangle, like any other graphic. Just let me type on it!)

    4. Changeable button/caption sets. (I am very, very sorry for the lousy custom buttons I made last year. I promise I will never make such ugly buttons again. Now can I please get them off the menu?!)

    5. Legitimate styles to replace the kind of flaky "apply to all".

    6. Grouping.

    7. RdcmndJumpToSlide. (Right now, imported Flash components can navigate to the next slide or the previous slide, but you can't choose a specific slide. It severely limits branching!)

    8. Locking/hiding changes. I'd love to be able to select a locked item so I can copy it or look at its options. (I usually only lock an object so I can select it without moving it. Call me a slow learner. ) Also, it's been months and I still accidentally delete slides while trying to delete hidden objects.

    OK, I'm happy now.

    Hi Artie

Again, while it's fine to publicly discuss what you would like to see, it's about like sitting on the couch and hoping the toilet will stop running. You have to perform an action. And that action would be to submit your items via the wish form.

    Hi there Colin (and others)

By reading your post I'm guessing you may be unaware of Adobe's preferred channel for items like what you posted. It is known as the Wish Form. Oddly enough, it's not quite the black hole some may believe it to be. The Captivate development team actually does read the suggestions posted there and act on them accordingly.

The thing is, when we use that avenue, they have a way of logging it and keeping a running tally of features requested. So the more folks requesting a specific feature via that channel, the more likely it will be to actually see the feature implemented. I believe it may have had to do with my constant nagging of folks to use that avenue that we finally saw in the patch released for Captivate 3 that we finally don't have to live with the separate folder when creating projects.

Okay, so where is this beastie? I'll post the link below.

Only by using the channels Adobe prefers to use are you likely to influence the product. Posting here will likely only give you an avenue to list what you would like to see and have others commiserate or agree. So I strongly encourage everyone to use the wish form!

    Cheers... Rick
