I am considering moving up to Captivate v5.5 from v4.

Have there been any issue or anything else raised on this forum that I need to be aware about in regards to problems or issues I need to consider with regards opening my v4 projects in v5.5 ?

Last thing I need is to find all my v4 project have format issues etc etc, when I first open them in v5.5

Thanks in advance,

Noel

    Hi,

You may open Captivate 4 projects into Captivate 5.5.However, it is recommended to save a back up copy of Cp 4 projects because Cp 4 file has .cp extension while Captivate 5.5 file has .cptx extension. So , once a Captivate 4 (.cp ) file is opened in Cp 5.5, it will be converted into .cptx file and you can never open it back again in Cp 4 unless you have the back up.

Also , Cp 4 supports both Action Script 2 and Action Script 3 based files while Cp 5.5 only supports Action Script 3 files. So in case , there are animations based on Action Script 2 in Cp 4 projects which you would want to open in Cp 5.5 , then you might face some issues as Cp 5.5 only suports AS 3.

Otherwise, mostly you are able to open your Cp 4 projects into Cp 5.5. You may also install both Cp 4 and Cp 5.5 on the same system as per your requirements.

our experience is that some captions will need to be reformatted.  Either the justification or the alignment of the text is off.  The position of the caption is fine, generally.  To be fair, I've seen this going from Cp5 to 5.5 also.

We've also had a couple instances where some 'on exit' actions did not translate correctly.  That is, we had a slide that did an "increment" action on slide exit, and when converted to Cp5/5.5 those actions had to be 'refreshed.'  (select some other action, then reselect 'increment' and it worked fine.)

After that experience we project more time if there are updates needed on a Cp4 activity (we convert everything to 5.5 as updates are made).

That said, it's my understanding you can have Cp4 and Cp5.5 peacfully co-exist on one system.
