yeah sure, seeing as you are the big boss of the coldfusion forums. Can I
get an email address for you, pehaps I ought to get permission prior to
posting??

The definition of the sky falling relates to the amount of people ditching
cf, not to the amount of people who are still using it. The sky "fell" years
ago/ You can see this much by the fact that the forums have a measley
trickle of postings keeping it alive. It gets in a week what most others get
in a few hours. This was never the case years ago.

If your objective is versatility, then .Net is probably a better investment of your time than PHP.

When I find a task that I cannot accomplish wth CF, I will likely convert to the current "flavor of the month" web technology at that time. But until then, I see no point in learning other languages with no obvious benefit to me and my customers over CF.

That is NOT to say that there aren't technologies that are better than CF at certain things. I am sure there are. But the problems I am tasked with providing solutions to are quickly, easilly, and inexpensively solved with CF. Hence, the sky ain't falling.

Each language has it's uses, PHP, Perl, .NET, ColdFusion.. with that said, I don't believe ColdFusion is dead. It's not even dying, they seem to be making vast improvements all the time with it. Languages overtime must evolve or they do get outdated and then useless. CF isn't there yet, and with such advocates as Ben Forta and others, hopefully it won't be there for a long time coming...

I think that pretty much covers anything that has and will be said on
this matter. But to sum up my feelings.

ColdFusion is not dead, or dying, until Adobe and BlueDragon and
everybody else stops supporting it. It may not be the biggest bully on
the block, but does it need to be? Do people not buy and use Wright
tools [ http://www.wrighttool.com/pub/default.asp?catalog=0 because
Craftsman and Stanly exists? (Are they the same now?)

I just know that I am causally looking for a new ColdFusion position at
the moment, not searching - just letting people come to me. I am
currently negotiating one offer; expecting one or two more and have
another initial interview in a couple of weeks. This is with me being
restricted from relocating outside of the Sacramento, California area.

That is enough demand for ColdFusion for me!

I am fairly new at the game. I have been using CF for 3 years now and have made leaps and bounds on my development ability with little to no instruction other than Ben Forta's manuals and a couple others. I have a friend/ colegue that has been programming PHP for 7 years that constantly bashes CF and tries to convert me. I plan on learning it to be a little more versitile but I am still a CF advocate. I can't help but be a little concerned about articles like this but I am too far in to back out now... plus I enjoy the CF community now.
