Adobe connect native linux client required

Hello, dear Adobe community,

 

my organization uses Adobe connect integrated with Canvas LMS for teaching purposes. At the office, there are no real issues because we use Microsoft Windows 10. Yet, because of the COVID-19 quarantine, we have been forced to work from home for two months now. At home, I am a regular linux user and I had not had the need to buy a Windows license so far (and frankly don't really intend to, either).

 

The point is that I really need linux support of the Adobe connect desktop app. I am currently teaching from home using the web based interface; however, there are situations that require sharing my desktop in order to show my students how to perform certain activities. I cannot depend on external tools because all classes need to be recorded.

 

Hope this quarantine situation motivate you to extend your support to different operative systems. Even Microsoft has taken the first step. I am currently using MS Teams in linux.

Sadly that sounds about right. 

 

I suppose the other question to ask is, if there were the option (and it's something we'd have to see if Adobe would even entertian it) would you be interested in creating an app for Linux? I'd be happy to go to the Connect team and see if there is any possibilty of allowing a 3rd party to create one.

    Dear Jorma,

     

    you are right, we can do something about it too. I am currently taking some (sadly fewer these days) spare time to identify why the Adobe Connect desktop application does not run properly using WINE (winehq.org). I will keep trying until something comes out of it, and I will be happy to share the outcomes here too.

    Adobe dropped the support of the Linux App for Connect quite some time ago. I don't believe there is any intention to support the Linux app again due to the low marketshare of users on Linux devices. Feel free to reach out to Adobe Support to see if they have a different answer, but that is my assessment of this.

    Hello, Jorma,

     

    thank you for your answer. In fact, Adobe Support has just "noticed" about my request. They gave me a polite "Ok" about it. It is a shame they do not care about users of other operative systems. Linux comunity is growing fast and solid. 

     

    My post was more a statement than a request, though. 

     

    Nevertheless, I really appreciate that you had taken the time to answer it.
