Converting PDF to Word document

I am a beginning user of Acrobat Professional. It was my understanding that you could "unmake" *.pdf files to their original formats. However, when I SAVE AS a Microsoft Word file, the *.pdf becomes a picture inside of the word document. How can I get the word file so that we can use it as usual.
