Converting word doc to PDF

I have a word document that i want to convert to .pdf, i am using adobe acrobat version 8.0. On my word doc i have a footer with the page description and page number but when i convert it to pdf form my footer has numbers and letters next to the page description, for example: 2B "page description" .................................................page#"
So when i go back to my word doc the 2B is originally not there, only appears in my pdf form. These different numbers like 12C, 2B, 3B etc...are on my footer on every other page. How can i delete this so it will not appear on my pdf form, is this a certain setting in word or adobe? pls help...

    To answer your question:

    This is a known problem with Acrobat 8.0. Have you updated to version 8.1?
