Credentialing Participants

One of my organizations that uses Adobe Connect uses it to conduct formal business meetings of its national board, to which visitors are allowed to be present, in accordance with its bylaws. They handle this by promoting all voting board members to "presenter" status, and not giving participants microphone or webcam rights. They are having a couple of problems:

  1. Not all members sign in correctly. They would prefer that at least the board members be required to come in as members, so that the system would know their names and list them correctly in the participants pod. Is that possible?
  2. They do electronic voting by means of a generic poll pod I created for them called "Pending Question," with simple "For" and "Against" options. They would prefer that participants not be able to vote, but I can't find any way to limit participation in a poll that is on someone's screen. What I've suggested is that they use the poll inside a "presenter only" area. I think that will work, but they still wanted me to ask about any other possible options. They like everyone (including the visitors) to be able to see the results of votes that are taken.

This is an organization of parliamentarians, so they are very ticky about matters like credentials and voting procedures.

Thanks.

For the board members, the easiest method for forcing the login issue, is to have an internal policy where you don't promote participants up to Presenters. Then, if the voting members join as guests, they will not be able to participate. You can pre-define their roll in the room as Presenters in the Edit Participants section of the meeting room on the server, so when they join, they are automatically at Presenter level. If, for whatever reason, they have not had the elevated permissions pre-defined, you can tell if they joined as a guest by the color of their shirt as a Participant. Blue shirt means guest, gold shirt means registered user. You could promote a participant with a gold shirt, because they used their username/password to join the room.

As to the voting, using the Presenter only area would be best for when the members are voting. Then, after you close the poll, you can can reveal the answer distribution and move the poll into the public area of the room and everyone will see the results.
