Question

Different layouts for Presenter/Host and Participants

I am going to teach a class and I need my own room layout to be different than the one the students see. In particular, I need to always see all participants in the "attendees" pod and want different sized pods than students since they have limited real estate on their laptop screens and I care about seeing different things than they do during the class. Currently, the only "solution" I have devised is to set up the room for the students and then enter "prepare" mode and go to a layout that works for me without disturbing theirs. This is not ideal as it means I am constantly looking at the room with a blue shading in prepare mode (v. 9 - can I turn that off?) and since now any layout changes I want to make during the presentation become a juggling act. Any suggestions for alternatives to getting a different layout for presenter and participant? Thanks All. Jan

Try using the Presenter Only Area. This is essentially a backstage area (that appears to the right of the main meeting) where you can have any collection of pods that you want/need that the students/attendees don't see. You can also keep an eye on the main room, without the shading or blue highlights of the Prepare Mode function.

This can be found by going to: Meeting > Enable Presenter Only Area

Jorma,

thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I cannot create two attendee pods (or video or Q&A pods). Hence, I can only have these either in the main room or the "presenter only" area but not in both. I really need them in both areas (for me and for the students), but they should occupy substantially different sizes in the available real estate (I have two screens and lots of room, students have limited size laptops or at most one screen and care about different things). Really the different users (host, presenters, participants) should have the flexibility to re-size their own desired pods so they fit their own needs and screen sizes. Of course, sometimes the "host mandated" layout is the right solution for a particular application. I guess I am hunting for a functionality that some other webinar packages offer - particular for Higher Ed teaching, but that I cannot find in Adobe Connect. Or maybe I just have not looked hard enough?

Cheers
Jan

You are correct about the Attendee list pod and the Video pod. Those can only have one instance in the meeting room. While the Q&A pod can only have one instance, there is an option to split the two views (Presenter and Participant) between the main stage (Participant view) and POA (Presenter view), eliminating the need for you to switch back and forth between the two views. I suppose a solution for 1 of 3 is better than nothing...

The 'host mandated' functionality has always been Connect's configuration. I don't believe you have not looked hard enough, as it seems that the only way to achieve your workflow is to use the Prepare Mode tool. I doubt the shading will be removed/disabled, as this function is intended to allow the meeting Host to modify/prepare inactive layouts and the shading is there to help easily identify which pod instances are on the active layout and which are not. This way the Host doesn't inadvertently change something that is being used in the active layout, causing a disruption to the live meeting. What you have done seems to be a good work around for your needs, and I'm not aware of a better way to achieve a reasonable solution.
