`Embedded Videos and other files

I am planning a course using Adobe Connect.  The sponsor of the training says that I cannot use embedded video or connect to web links in my Powerpoint.  He says that I must seperate all media before playing video through my Powerpoint.  That does not seem to be true.  Also does Adobe connect need a trainer and an operator?

I am at one of those places that have been authorized to tele-work which means we're doing a lot of online training for employees now.  We've never needed the option of using Adobe Connect as instructors before and are now having to learn all about it, both good and bad.  Luckily we have found most of it to be good.  I have had great conversations with Adobe Support on a few issues we've run into.  One of which was embedding video into PowerPoint slides.

 

Adobe informed me they do not support any other method of embedding video into slides other than using Presenter.  Well, I work for the Governement and trying to get IT to install "non-standard" software on a Gov't computer is nearly impossible.  So, I downloaded a trial version on my personal computer and went to town.  Works great for that, but we found a work-around to using Presenter.

 

The trick is to embed your video (I'd compress it as much as you can and convert it to MP4) into the slide and upload it to Connect from a computer that does not have PowerPoint installed.  I know, I know, where can you find a computer without MS Office intalled now-a-days especially in the Gov't?  I had to uninstall it from a spare computer and do it that way.  I also tried it using a MacBook laptop without PPT installed. It will give you an "error" of some sort saying it can't use PowerPoint for conversion, but it works like a champ. Be sure to configure your playback setting for the video in PPT before you upload.  It's a few extra steps to make it work, but we have had great success in doing it this way.  Otherwise pay for Presenter and use it.  It does have some additional nice features you might be able to use as well.

    Yes we work with government agencies too so sympathise with the IT approvals. To be honest we've found the best work around is to line up the videos in the Presenter Only area and drag them in as needed?

    Yes Adobe has some quirks but on the whole it's far more secure and accessible - unless you are wanting folks to access an on demand self guided content? We've run into problems there too but a work around is to post your video content somehwere else and embed the link in your PPTX and include the path that it opens in a stand alone window.

    Videos placed into PPT may not play within the presentation after uploading it to Connect. You can get a program called Adobe Presenter which has a workflow to embed videos so they do play back, but you can also just seperate them out and upload the MP4s to the room and switch between the MP4s and the PPT when you present. 

    Hyperlinks in the presentation will remain active when uploading to Connect. 

    Connect doesn't require a trainer and an operator, though it can make your life easier if there is someone there to manage the room while you deliver the training.

      Thank you for the response.  It appears that Connect has limitations that most of the other virtual training systems do not have.  Imn ability to see my students is unacceptable.  It is blamed on bandwith.  I attend Zoom meetings seeing 50+ delegates, all on video.

       

      I am told that I must leave all the messeging windows on the display?

      All virtual meeting/collaboration platforms have limitations. There is no one tool that does it all. If there was then the rest wouldn't exist. The trick is identifying what functions are of higher importance to you and finding a platoform that best meets those needs. Much like buying a car, you don't want to purchase a pickup truck if you have a family of 5. Sure it can have a lot of things put into it, just not 5 people. 

       

      If having everyone on live camera is your need, then Connect is the wrong tool. It is a great virtual classroom tool with strong interactive capabilities. And it happens to provied a way to do live video. But, it is not a video conferencing solution. There's more of a long winded technical explanation, but I suspect that isn't warrented here. 

       

      Not sure about your question about messaging windows. You can hide or reveal pods as you see fit in Connect.
