Embedded videos in ppt don't play when shown through Adobe Connect; can you help?

We want to use Adobe Connect for webinars, but we're an entirely Mac shop and our ppt presentations have numerous embedded film clips. All "kinetic" aspects of the ppt presentations in addition to the video clips are disabled when shown through Connect on our Macs. The result is just static slides and no videos at all.

Someone suggested we process the ppt presentation through Adobe Presenter and that would keep the video functionality, but there isn't a version for Macs, right? Someone else suggested Adobe Captivate. Not sure what to do. We don't want to have to recreate these presentations, we just want to be able to keep their original functionality when presenting in a Connect window (either Share Screen or Share File).

Many thanks for any help you can give us!

When you use embedded media in PPT files they must be one of the supported file types for connect. This page lists which file types connect can use. Best practices | Uploading files

If you are using video I would suggest you use a common h264 codec and save them as mp4 files.

Audio and video inserted through PPT are not translated when the presentation is converted to Flash (using the Adobe Presenter conversion engine on the server) to display in the room. The suggestion of using Presenter or Captivate is not a bad one, but as you found out there isn't a version of Presenter for Mac that will fill this need and Captivate may not do the conversion as expected. Captivate could work but there is a bit of a learning curve for it and it won't simply allow you to plug in your PPT deck and get a useful output.

I'd suggest that you instead upload the video assets separately into their own versions of the Share pod and then switch back and forth between the presentation and the videos. This can be done pretty seamlessly through a couple different methods.

You can use the layouts to create duplicate layouts and then change the content on them so you can have one layout with the PPT deck and different layouts with the videos on them. Then you just jump from one layout to another to move between showing the PPT deck and the videos. This will come with a brief loading time as the new layout loads.

The other option is to layer the different share pods. This means that all the objects (PPT and videos) will load into one layout and you just bring the appropriate Share pod to the front of the room. this can be done by having an offset on either side of The share pods, allowing you to click on the desired pod and bring it to the front or by using they keyboard command:

Move focus to next / previous pod

Windows: Ctrl+F6 / Ctrl+Shift+F6

Mac: Command+F6 / Command+Shift+F6

The navigation to the next/previous pod is seamless to participants as they won't see you browsing between the pods.
