External mic won't work with Connect

I'm trying to use an external mic with Connect on a Dell Latitude D630. Right-clicking the mic icon in the Connect window and clicking "Settings" (technically Flash settings) brings up line in and mic options, but I only get the built in mic, which picks up everything, including the internal fan in the computer. Audio drivers are up to date.

    Was the external mic plugged in before you launched your Connect room? Does your OS see the mic? Have you tried launching the meeting room with the Connect Add-In to see if it behaves differently?

    Yes, yes and I'm using it as the add-in. I swapped out the mic for a USB audio interface with a mixer fed to it, and that solved pretty much all of my issues. Thanks for your time, regardless!
