Question

Extracting Connect recorded meetings?

We would like to 'pull' the recording meetings out of Connect and make them available to others as a simple file. I can see no way of pulling these recordings from our Connect server. Can it even be done?

Ok, I can move meeting recordings from one server to another, and using the API can move the recording SCO to the destination's "recordings" tab.  I can also use the API to move all supporting/linked content to the meeting's uploaded content section.  The problem I am having now is "re-linking" that content to the recording.  So if the recording had a powerpoint document uploaded, it won't play.  It just says "Loading Content" when viewing the recording and the linked resource does not show a "Yes" in the Referenced column.  Any ideas on how to "re-link" the content?

Sam, may I ask how you were able to move the meeting recordings over to another server using the API?

We're trying to do something similar, but we want to host our recordings on a cloud service like Amazon S3.

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

I also ran into this problem, and have resolved to re-recording the recorded meeting using an AVI screen capture utility. It recompresses the video into the DIVX format and runs at a burn rate of approximately 5MB per minute of recorded video.

That said, can't wait until recordings.

I also have the constant need to have the Connect recordins as a single file. I currently do this by using Camtasia to "record the recording". I have found that this gives me the added advantage of being able to totally edit the recording both video and audio and to produce it in several different video formats.

If you have a current Maintenance and Support agreement then the new version will be given to you as soon as it is released. If you have a licensed account this will probably come in the form of a disk to your contact listed in your Admin section of your enterprise server. If you are hosted, then it will just change when they release the new version.

We are currently evaluating Adobe Connect to replace another software we use for conducting webinars. The ability to download the recording is critical for us. Good to know it will be available in 2008, otherwise is a no go!

Hi wsipx-mike,

We have the same problem and though there is no easy way to do this, we have established a work-around when we absolutely have to extract the information. It really only works for simple presentations. Our method doesn't capture the chat pods, etc.

Sound Recording:
We use a program called Audacity for our sound recording. It is a fairly robust open source freeware program. One of the recording options in Audacity is "What U Hear". This causes it to capture any sound that occurs on your computer. Open Audacity, set the input to What U Hear, and click Record. Play your Connect recording. Save the resulting audio file.

Now you need to lay the sound into your slides. You could do this with Acrobat Presenter plug-in for PowerPoint by importing the sound, syncing it with your slides and exporting the file.

However, we also use Adobe Captive 3, which I think gives me more control. Import the PowerPoint slides into Captivate, import the sound file, and then edit the sound in Captivate by clicking Start New Slide as the appropriate points. The result is a swf file that delivers similar content to your Connect Meeting.

If you know that you need to do this before the meeting, you can have someone write down when the slide changes occur during the meeting. After importing the slides, set each to the duration noted during the meeting. Finally, import the sound file and let Captivate use the current timing and lay the sound over multiple slides.

Not yet, we're hoping for a download option in the next release of Connect - Spring 2008. The Connect product team is well aware of this feature being required by users.
