Question

Is there a max PDF file size for the Share Document function?

I am trying to Share Document with a PDF that is 500k and I get a failed message that reads:

Adobe Connect could not process this document for viewing. Try uploading the file again or use screen sharing to view this PDF instead.

I do not want to use screen sharing. 500k seems pretty small to have an error message. Is there a solution or work-around for this?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide!

Karen

I think it is 100MB like the File Share Pod.

However, please understand that not all of the PDF features are able to be used inside Connect. Here is why:

When you upload into the Share Document Pod using Powerpoint or PDF, there is a conversion engine that kicks in to convert that file on the fly to Flash format so it can be streamed to participants. That saves a ton of bandwidth and why Connect is so good with bandwidth utilization. However, not all features of PDF or Powerpoint are supported during this conversion to Flash as there is no comparable feature set in Flash to match so the engine trys but if it cannot convert it. As a result, then you get the error. If you use screen sharing then everything can be seen and there is no conversion.

Understand that Connect was acquired when Macromedia was purchased by Adobe and so while PDF and Connect are now Adobe solutions they come from completely different development environments. That being said, we are always looking to add more and more features from the PDF world to the conversion engine in each release. We did not support PDF until Connect 7.5 so we have made good progress in a year. Stay tuned!

I suggest maybe saving the PDF in a lower PDF format which would make it an easier conversion. I've heard PDF-A is bestter.
