I need to know which microphone is best as when conducting a dictation tutorial the first word/s are apparently not coming out.   Is this a setting problem at my end or the other person's?  Or do I need a better microphone.Mary

This isn't a mike problem, just a user training opportunity. It's very common for a speaker to start speaking before the software is ready, and even before they unmute their mike. Professional speakers almost always start with a long "Good morning" to get audience attention and get techs to start recordings and make last second audio level corrections.

Just to add to what Eric has to say, do try to repeat-confirm the first few words before proceeding with the whole session.

It is possible that this is a result of a human error or could also be a bug/misconfiguration.

If a confirmation that each side is in sync solves the problem, then that may be the easiest and most-immediate solution
