Question

Newer Linux Add-In?

Hi there!

I find ACP is a great product, but I'm having problems using it with Linux. I can't share my desktop or upload files, since I can't install the add-in.

According to

http://helpx.adobe.com/adobe-connect/kb/install-connect-meeting-add-ubuntu.html

only Ubuntu Lucid is supported. Now the support term of Lucid, already in its extended phase, is soon about to end. I'm running Oneiric and will soon upgrade to Precise. I would not like to install an obsolete operating system, which is only supported for a few months more, for the only purpose of using ACP.

The .deb file installs fine on my system, but ACP doesn't recognize the package as being installed. ACP gives me the option to (re)install the .deb file and the Add-In functionality is missing.

So, my question: What are Adobe's plans (and time schedule) for supporting newer Ubuntu versions?

Thanks for any help,

Mikael

    Per Adobe:

Meeting Add-ins for Adobe Connect 9

Adobe Connect 9 Meetings Add-ins are not backwards compatible with prior versions of Adobe Connect. However, you can install the Adobe Connect 9 Add-in to co-exist on your system with previous Add-in versions, enabling screen sharing capabilities for both Adobe Connect 9 and earlier versions of Adobe Connect.  Please note that there is currently no Add-in for Ubuntu 10.04 Linux.  Users on Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat and OpenSUSE) will still be able to attend, host, or present in meetings in the browser.  The new Add-in for Ubuntu Linux is planned in a service pack following the Adobe Connect 9 release.

    Hi again!

Thank you for the very quick reply!

My Ubuntu package manager says I have installed the connectaddin 9.4.81.0 deb file, whereas the about dialogue in ACP says "Adobe® Connect™ 8 Add-In". This confuses me a bit.

The About box also says Adobe Connect is version 8.2.0.0, which I guess is the version ran by our university? Flash player is LNX 11.2.something. Should be new.

I don't mind installing several versions of the Add-in in parallell if that lets me share the screen and upload documents. But since I'm not sure even which version of the Add-in I currently have installed, I have to ask exactly which versions of the Add-in I should install, and exactly where can I download them?

Regarding the service pack you mention, will newer ubuntu then be supported only for installations of Connect 9? I don't know about my university's plans for upgrading. And approximately when would this be released by Adobe?

    Thanks a lot!

    Mikael

The version of the add-in sounds correct. The Connect 9 add-in is showing as Version 11.2.246.0 on my computer.  Version numbers are confusing, but there have been a few add-in revisions/updates mid Connect version.

8.2.0.0 would be the version that your university is running. It is not the most current version, but nothing that should affect your experience.

The version you have should be the most current version of the Linux add-in (can be confirmed by downloading the version available on the site I listed above), and it should be backward compatible for previous versions of Connect. When the C9 add-in is released for Linux, it will be a new version that is not backwards compatible, so you should see two versions of the add-in on your computer, until you uninstall the old version. For C9, the add-in is called the Connect 9 add=in, instead of the the Connect add-in.

No idea on the service pack release date, the information you see on the site is all I have to go on as well. Since Connect 9 hasn't been released, I'd expect it to be a while. Probably 3-6 months if I had to guess. But that is just a guess.
