Participant Video Issue - Dell Vostro 1500

Hello -

I searched this issue but got nothing - perhaps this forum can help.

Using Adobe Connect 8, I am the 'host' and not having issues.

I have a participant who is attempting to use the integrated camera on her Dell Vostro 1500 (XP equipped) during the meeting.  In this particular implementation the participants login as 'guests' and I enable their video sharing rights so that they can have a virutal panel.  Everybody worked (8 + cams) except for one participant who is using the Dell.  Her video does actually connect, but shows up as just a black screen with her username at the bottom of it.  I just tried to re-test with her 1 on 1 but could not get to the bottom of it and it has me stumped.

I had her do the following:

  • Confirm that her laptop was 'open' and that she was using the laptop monitor (make sure the image wasn't black bc the laptop was closed )
  • Run the Adobe Connect Connection test (flash player, connection speed etc.)
  • Right click on her video pod, click on the camera and the one selected is 'integrated'.  She did have another camera option (which I found strange) called 'imaging' or something, and I had her try to switch to that and no dice.
  • She is currently installing the plugin locally - I have not yet heard back from her.

Has anybody else had or remedied a similar issue - participant video starting, and linking to their login (name at bottom of viewer) but showing up all 'black'?

The only thing I have read is some laptops not hitting the desired 'resolution' for the chat window...that most newer laptops will auto resize.....

Anyhow - thanks in advance for any insight/advice.  The product has been working pretty well otherwise.

Justin

Make sure that no other applications are using the camera (like the web cam software on the Vostro or Skype), as the image can only be used by one application at a time. It may also be worth trying the web cam in another applicaiton or an external webcam, just to test to make sure that her built in camera isn't bad.
