Presenter 11.1 - Imported Video plays in preview but not in publishing

The problem that I'm seeing is documented here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/captivate/adobe-presenter-8-problem-with-video-playback/m-p/11713069?page=1#M287227

I'm on Presenter 11.1 on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC. At the beginning of the month, I was not having any issues with video playback or with importing (12/2/20). However, as of yesterday, I am now seeing this exact behavior; when I try to preview or publish the presenter file/slide that contains the imported video, it gives me a blank slide that lasts for 5 seconds with no audio. I have not changed anything since the last time I opened the files.

  • I've tried both MP4 and AVI files.
  • I have also verified that my global flash settings are correct.

Any other ideas?

Finally found a resolution, after working extensively with Adobe chat support for a couple days. Final solution:

Insert the video through Powerpoint, and not through Presenter. Then you should be able to preview the video as expected.

Software setup with this final solution:

  • Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2019 64-bit
  • Adobe Presenter 1.1.5 64-bit

Also, because I removed Adobe Flash Player during the course of the troubleshooting, Adobe support was able to provide me with a download link that enabled me to edit my registry to enable Adobe Flash Player usage. I hope this helps!

What does "enable Adobe Flash Player" have to do with your problem? You already remove it from your system, right? What is the link? Please share.

Thank you.

Enabling Adobe Flash Player was important at the time because I could not import videos through the Adobe Presenter ribbon because it requires you to have Flash in order to import a video. I didn't save the link support sent me, I'm sorry.

However, now that I know that I shouldn't import through the Presenter ribbon, having Flash isn't as important. I just included that information in case someone found themselves in a situation where they needed Flash but couldn't get access. Adobe chat support can help with that.

Ok, well being that we are now in 2021 we'll not use the F word (Flash) any longer.

Are you publishing as HTML?

MP4 video should be what you use. AVI should just get converted to MP4 when you import it with Presenter. Actually, are you importing via the Presenter insert Video function?

Regarding the F-word, agreed!

Yes, I'm publishing as HTML. Yes, I'm importing via the presenter insert video function. I used MP4 when it was working fine, I only tried AVI because I was confused on what changed so I wanted to explore all options.

It worked perfectly as of 12/2 and I didn't change anything when I reopened the file. I was unsure on if maybe a windows update or some other software related thing changed something. So, I thought bringing it here may help shine some light.

The behavior sounds like it is not recognizing the video file. Can you verify that the video is in the output files of Presenter? It should be in the resources folder of the output.

My next steps would be to try a different MP4 file, try it on a new slide. Then, it may need to be a conversation with the Connect Support team.
