Question

Presenting using mobile internet? (Turbo stick or Mifi hub)

Hi.  I really hope this isn't a stupid question and I would really appreciate any insight!  I see that presenters are advised not to use wifi, because the connection can drop.  Would it be possible to use a turbo stick or other mobile internet hub instead, if a wired connection is not an option?  Or would it be as unreliable as wifi?  THank you!!!

I would be cautious of mobile data connections, especially for presenting. Mobile bandwidth can vary pretty significantly and some providers do throttle connections which can reduce the performance of your delivery.

Wifi has different challenges. Honestly, I am almost always on a wifi connection when I am presenting or attending a Connect session. But, I am on a strong router that is dedicated to just me. If you are on a wifi connection in an office or at a public location there can be tens or hundreds of devices connected to it all demanding bandwidth for their various applications. This can lead to a scenario where the router becomes overwhelmed and drops the connection or connectivity is limited due to so many users trying to access the internet at the same time.

If you are on a home network with a decent wifi router, you shouldn't see any issues.
