Question

That Adobe Connect Demo I attended today was a disaster. First, no voip sound. Then the whole thing went off-line. Then I found out that Presenter is not Mac compatible. Poor reflection on Adobe!

I'm not surprised. Adobe began reducing investment in the product in 2010 when staff reductions happened. Connect took a big hit and features dropped. Sales teams were eliminated, etc. So, suggest you look elsewhere as Adobe decided long ago this was not a strategic market for them. When I worked at Adobe on this product, Presenter was always PC only and terribly buggy. It's a great concept but poorly executed in my opinion. Adobe does not consider this to be a strategic product from when I was there so you won't see a major push to improve this.

    Heyward,

Good to see you back on the forums. Your knowledge was missed when you left Adobe.

    dsebald,

I would disagree that Connect and Presenter are not viable products from Adobe. While their market shift has changed, the products continue to grow and change with the market. Issues in Connect, or any web conferencing platform, can come from a variety of places. It may have been the service, but it may also be related to hardware or internet connectivity issues. Without being able to reproduce the problem, it's hard to say exactly what may have happened. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but that is how technology goes sometimes. If the problem is consistent, then there is an issue with the solution.

As to Presenter, it has always been a PC only application. Mostly this is due to how plug-in applications are allowed in the PC version of PPT vs. the Mac version of PPT. Keep in mind that there are two or three software companies involved in you using Presenter. It was very buggy in the past, as it was the red-headed step child of Connect. However, since version 7.0.7 it has been owned and improved by the Captivate team. While not perfect, it is getting better. There is a Mac tool that is part of the Presenter product, the Presenter Video Express tool. It is the screen and webcam capture tool to get real-time captures. For there to be a Mac version of Presenter, there will need to be a clear need in the market place, your voice helps, and then Adobe, Microsoft and Apple will all have to have some method of getting it in place. If working on Mac OS is the important part, I would recommend looking at Captivate, as it is Presenter's big brother, and can be used on Mac OSX.
