Timing problem between tracks

I have been using audition 1.5 for years. All of a sudden when I record guitar on one track and lay vocals on another track then playback. The timing between the two is off then on throughout the whole song. I updated my soundcard driver but it didn't help. Anyone ever had this problem. I also have Audition 3.0 and it's doing the same thing. Out of time. Need help if anyone knows.

    A little more info....I recorded myself counting with the timer into my mic and about 20 seconds into a recording it starts to unsync and gets progressively worse the longer the recording goes.  It's inconsistent and becomes erratically out of snyc. I made hundreds of multi track recordings in the past and have never had this problem.
