Trouble with hyperlinking

I converted a word document that had some hyperlinks to a file on the server and now the hyperlink doesn't work. So I reset the link in Adobe Pro 7 and when I emailed the document, the link was broken again.

Why doesn't it retain the links?

Thanks for any help I can get.
